Gold Medal Olympic Rowers
Hamish Bond and Eric Murray are Gold Medal Olympic rowers again in 2016 and the fastest coxless pair on the water! They remain unbeaten internationally since 2009 and hold the world best time in the event (6:08.50) which they set at the 2012 London Olympics.
Hamish and Eric have now have etched themselves in history books as the most consistent crew, having had 22 consecutive international wins in their pair combination at the end of the 2015 season. They have won six world titles (2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016) in their favoured event the men's coxless pair.
At the 2015 World Rowing Championships they defended their world title for the sixth time and in doing so qualified the boat for the 2016 Olympic Games where they once again became Olympic Champions winning gold!
At the 2014 World Rowing Championships the pair gave themselves a challenge of contesting both the coxed pair and the coxless pair and won double gold. The crew also claimed a world best time in the mens’ coxed pair with coxswain Caleb Shepherd.
At the 2012 London Olympic Games Eric Murray and Hamish Bond took six seconds off the world best time to make history with their time of 6:08.5 in their heat for the men's coxless pair and then went on to win gold in the Olympic final.
They were nominated for World Rowing Male Crew of the Year in 2011, 2012 and 2013. In 2011, 2013 and 2014 they were named FISA World Rowing Male Crew of the Year.
Hamish and team mate Eric were Halberg Supreme Award winners in 2012 and 2014, and Halberg Team of the Year in 2014, 2012, 2009. In 2007 Hamish was in a New Zealand four that also took out Team of the Year honours.
Hamish and Eric have also won at Henley Royal Regatta in the international men’s pair event – the Silver Goblets – twice in succession in 2009 and 2010 and then a third time in 2013. The crew is regarded as one of the great crews of the modern era of rowing.
